Health and Safety Officer
Seeking an experienced Health & Safety Officer with 3+ years’ experience and SACPCMP registration to drive safety compliance, risk management and a strong safety culture across operations.
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Health & Safety Officer in the Residential Construction industry to ensure a safe, compliant working environment across our operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and managing workplace risks, monitoring compliance, and driving a strong health and safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
Implement and monitor health and safety policies, procedures and standards.
Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and applicable regulations.
Conduct workplace inspections, risk assessments and safety audits.
Identify hazards and implement appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
Investigate incidents, accidents and near misses and ensure appropriate follow-up.
Maintain accurate health and safety records, registers and compliance documentation.
Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks and health and safety awareness training.
Monitor the use of PPE and adherence to safe working procedures.
Assist with emergency preparedness, evacuation procedures and drills.
Monitor contractor compliance with health and safety requirements.
Track and close out corrective actions arising from inspections, audits and incidents.
Promote a proactive safety culture across the organisation.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience as a Health & Safety Officer or in a similar role.
Current SACPCMP registration is essential.
Relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, SHEQ, SAMTRAC or a related field.
Sound knowledge of South African occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
Experience conducting risk assessments, safety inspections and incident investigations.
Strong administrative, reporting and record-keeping skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
